All About Me - Susan Kowalski
As a native of Michigan, and a graduate of Northwood University, it was an automotive industry job transfer that brought me to sunny Southern California in 1986. After five years living in San Fernando Valley, and a few visits to the beach, I heard the calling of the South Bay beach communities. I found Redondo Beach with its small-town charm and gracious residents offered the ideal place to settle down, establish roots and join this vibrant community as a permanent resident.
I take great pride in being independently employed in our great city for the past 21 years. Small, independent businesses are, and always will be, the lifeblood of many wonderful American cities and towns and Redondo Beach, with its rich history, is most certainly one of the very best of these cities. In my years as a resident of District 2 I have greatly enjoyed the strong sense of community we all share. That sense of community has led me to become actively involved in two organizations where I currently hold volunteer leadership roles: Sandpipers (www.sandpipers.org) and Pediatric Therapy Network (www.pediatrictherapynetwork.org). Additionally, I am a current volunteer with CASA LA (www.casala.org) and America Share (www.americashare.org). I was recently honored with the " Sandpiper of the Year" award for 2013-2014.
Among the many issues facing the residents of our district, two have garnered much attention; the revitalization of the waterfront and finding a common ground regarding the power plant and its surrounding property. To achieve a sensible and informed path forward on these two issues I feel that transparent and direct communication between the city council and the community is nothing less than mandatory. I would truly be honored to represent my neighbors in District 2 on these, and any other, important issues.
With your support and your votes, I promise to serve our community with my experience as a businessperson and my determination as a volunteer. Further, I will bring those skills to the table for each and every issue that is important to my neighbors here in District 2 and proudly represents us all as a New Voice on the City Council.
If you have any questions and/or comments, please visit my contact page. I am eager to learn about your ideas, concerns and vision for our community.
